About Dr. Suborna Barua and his team

Welcome to the portal of the research team led by Suborna Barua, PhD. This is a cross-national team facilitating collaborations between researchers and young scholars stationed in different parts of the world. The team carries out academic and professional research across a wide range of topics in economics, finance, banking, and the environment. The team is not too big, but is full of too great ideas and people! 


Suborna Barua, PhD holds a blended experience of teaching courses in economics and finance at universities in Australia and Bangladesh; delivering professional training to 1000+ participants on financial modelling, financial markets, financial management and project management; and working in over eight cross-border research projects supported by institutions such as the World Bank, the UNDP, the DFID-UK, the University of Oxford, John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and Plan International. He has a long track of serving in financial and management consultant and advisory roles at over ten local and multinational corporations. Suborna’s publication portfolio includes books, book chapters, and over thirty articles published in high-impact factor journals. He has presented at more than twelve international conferences so far. He is the author of the book Principles of Green Banking: Managing Environmental Risk and Sustainability (De Gruyter, 2020)- the first organized material on green banking.

Suborna currently holds a full-time position of Assistant Professor at the Department of International Business, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Kaniz Ahmed 
Kaniz is an undergraduate student at the Department of Finance, University of Dhaka. Although she is a Finance major, her interests include Financial Technology, Behavioral Economics, Development Finance and Forensic Accounting.  She has previously worked with youth platforms like Torun and Social Business Youth Alliance. She is also the co-founder of Project Odhikosh- a voluntary project that distributes textbooks to underprivileged children. She is a voracious reader, blogger and FinTech enthusiast. She joined Dr Barua's team in May 2021 and is currently working on projects on Financial Technology.




Adrita Priyodarshini 
Adrita is an ambitious final year undergraduate student at the Department of International Business, University of Dhaka, working as a strategist in several business development projects, and providing digital marketing support to several startups. She has previously worked with youth platforms like Youth School for Social Entrepreneurs; Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship Center, DU; and Active Citizen. She is an analytical thinker, avid reader and research enthusiast. She joined Dr Barua's team in May 2021 and is keen to develop research skills in areas covering strategic finance and investment, Financial Technology, and Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) capacity building.




Md. Ashad Ull Haque Akash
Ashad is an undergraduate student at the Department of Finance, University of Dhaka. Ashad has experience and skill in industry and economic analysis, company valuation, and portfolio management. He is a Local Champion in The CFA Institute Research Challenge (2020-21), a Former Campus Ambassador for IDLC Asset Management Ltd, and an Honorary Secretary of Rotaract Club of Rajdhani Sonargaon for Rotary Year: 2021-22. Ashad joined Dr Barua's team in July 2021, and since then here has been actively contributing to several academic and consulting projects including financial sector development and foreign direct investment. While Ashad holds a particular interest in research on finance and economics topics, he wishes to build skills in Financial Technology (FinTech). 


Mruga Mahesh Salunke 
Mruga is a graduate in Cross-cultural communications from Northeastern University, USA. Mruga is keen to develop her expertise as an analytical writer. She is keen in research issues covering cross-border politics and economics. She has been working as a research team member with Dr. Barua since July 2020. With Dr. Barua, her works include the Belt and Road Initiative and its implications for South Asia. Mruga finished her Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resource Management from the University of Pune, India in 2017 and a Master of Science in Organizational and Corporate Communications from the Northeastern University, USA in 2020. Her portfolio of experience includes working as a researcher at the Northeastern University and the Research Innovation and Scholarship Expo (RISE). She has also served in different corporate roles at the Boston Self Help Center Inc. (Capstone) and the Plymouth Rock Project in Boston, MA. Mruga is a Huntington 100 Nominee 2020 RISE Award winner.




Shabnaj Bidoura
With a determination to contribute to international affairs-related activities, Shabnaj completed BBA and MBA in International Business from the University of Dhaka in 2021. She has experience in project coordination, technical writing, business & economic analysis. She worked with the Innovation, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship Center of the University of Dhaka, starting as an intern, and gradually working in the core team as a researcher, analyst, and event coordinator. She worked as a CMSMEs Business Facilitator Coordinator in Project REVIVE- a collaborative initiative of ICE Center, University of Dhaka, and UNDP Bangladesh. Shabnaj volunteered as a coordinator in the Bangladesh Investment and Policy Summit and was one of the editorial team members at International Finance Corporation (IFC) – a World Bank Group. She is interested in international trade, small and medium enterprises, and entrepreneurship research.


Shabnaj Bidoura
Abhishek Chakravarty completed BBA and MBA degrees from the Department of International Business, University of Dhaka in 2021. He is currently working as an adjunct faculty at a private university in Bangladesh. Abhishek is a Co-founder of Boithak - a platform that works for providing fresh perspectives on business issues, economic systems, and current market trends. He has experience in working as a Coordinator of the REVIVE CMSMEs Business Facilitators project, an Executive at the Dhaka University’s Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship Center, and a technical writer at GGLink. As part of the team with Dr Barua, Abhishek aims to develop skills in business planning, project management, technical writing, and business and economy analysis. He is now contributing to several projects of Dr Barua, including a book on the History of Bangladesh Economy, Operational Support and Scale-Up Action Program for MSMEs, and Bangladesh Leather Sector Market Study.
